Earlier this year, Aldi, the German grocery store chain,
announced the banning of eight pesticides from its products. This was one among
several decisions they have made to create a healthier brand.
This will lead to more rivalry among other leading health food
stores like, “Whole Foods.” Aldi also plans to expand their organic food brands
and add more gluten-free items. They will sell meat that has less artificial
growth hormones. Aldi plans to offer more quality goods in its stores such as,
coconut oil and artisanal cheeses.
The pesticides Aldi will be removing pesticides such as
Thiamethoxam, which is moderately hazardous to humans according to the Food and
Agriculture Organization of the U.N. They will also remove Chlorpyrifos and
Cypermethrin. Both of these have posed a risk to bees, and the autoimmune
systems for people.
