Fall graduates gear up for graduation (EDIT)

Fall grads gear up for graduation

At the beginning of this semester I thought this was going to be the longest semester ever. However, the end is near and new beginnings are around the corner. This semester has been good and I really feel it's preparing me for life after college.

I found mock interview day to be very useful. I am glad it was a requirement for digital portfolio taught by Maria Stover. I know many people hate interviews, which I am one of them. Having an interview that eliminates the stress of being for a real job helps ease the pain.

I went to my mock interview on Nov. 4th. It was a success and I got some feedback on what to improve upon. This is something that will help everyone prepare for interviews and I felt comfortable asking her for feedback on my resume and she told me what she thought.

Another great event that was held was the career fair. I am very glad that was an assignment in the Career Portfolio class.  Everything that has been happening in this class is very beneficial for the upcoming events in all the graduates lives.

Now that it is almost mid November the pressure is really on. Trying to get all these group projects figured out and ready to present. I think that this is probably the most stressful month of the semester. I am ready for it to be Thanksgiving, which will bring on success week followed by finals week.

Finals week will be very busy. I am in 14 credit hours, so I will have 5 finals exams or projects. I was looking at the finals schedule and I couldn't believe I have a final on Dec. 11, which is also graduation day. I am less than thrilled about this. I would be alright with it if it was early in the morning, but it's at 1:30 p.m. Hopefully it doesn't take too long as graduates have to be in Petro at 5:30 for the ceremony that starts at 6:30 p.m.

I hope everyone has a great next month of the semester and to all the graduates congrats!

  1. The headline is much better in the edited version of this story. I would go with the first option: "Fall graduates gear up for graduation." I still think this is more of an editorial than news piece, but it's relatable for Washburn students. If you wanted to transform it into a news piece you would just need to remove all the personal statements and make it more objective and factual.

  2. I think the second paragraph needs some work! I would change it to: "I am glad that mock interviews are apart of the portfolio class because I found my interview to be very useful. Even though a lot of people, including myself, don't enjoy the interview process, I know it will help me when applying for a real job."

  3. Good edit. However, I agree with Amy that you should take out personal opinion and reword the article with just facts.

  4. Great edit. Is this an article or an extra credit post? It kind of seems like it might be extra credit. I loved the story regardless!

  5. I like the top headline in the edited version better. I agree with Amy, this sounds more like an editorial than a news story, but it's still a great story!

  6. You refer to Dr. Stover's class by two different names, neither of which are technically the proper title. I would name the proper title first and then on second reference shorten it or change it to just portfolio class.

  7. There is some wordiness in your writing. Try using more concise phrases. Otherwise, great job! I enjoyed reading it.

  10. Like said above, I think you should take out you opinion. You also forgot to make 6 to 6 p.m. Overall, small mistakes that can easily be fixed! Great job!

  11. I think that this is too much of an opinion piece. I would have put quotes around a couple of things and said that Heather Woods said this or said that. Good job!

  12. Nice story! This line could be rewritten to not repeat "was" twice: "Another great event that was held was the career fair."
