Giving trees: Helping children in need

Washburn's 14th annual Giving Tree Project is offering students and community members a chance to help area children in need during the holiday season.

Christmas trees will be placed at certain locations on or near Washburn's campus. Every tree will be decorated with angel tags that have a specific toy listed on the back. Participants will visit one of the trees, choose a tag and purchase the gift requested. The unwrapped gift and the tag must be returned to the location of the tree by noon on Friday, Dec. 4.

Chrismas trees can be found at the following locations:

  • Catholic Campus Center
  • International House
  • Leadership Institute in Benton Hall, room 408
  • radiology department
  • Benton Hall, room 114
  • Living Learning Center lobby
  • Student Recreation and Wellness Center
  • WSGA office

On Dec. 4, gifts will be collected from all tree locations and delivered to Doorstep, Let's Help and the Topeka Rescue Mission. For more information on the Giving Tree Project, call Shelby Ferguson or Patti Lyon at the Catholic Campus Center at (785) 233-2204 or email wucatholic@hotmail.com and type "Giving Tree" in the subject line.

  1. I thought the story was great, to the point and informative. My only recommendation is that the last sentence is rather long. I think it would be better if it were broken up into two sentences.

  2. I had not idea this was a thing at Washburn. Very cool! I love that you wrote about something positive and helpful. If you were wanting to make it longer I would add more about what it does and or give some background about the Giving Tree Project.

  3. Great story and excellent job on being AP style and grammatically correct. I would elaborate more in the first sentence on information and background for the Giving Tree Project. Other than that, again, great job! You can tell you have put work into this class and it has paid off.
