Revision- Forgetting to be Thankful

Thanksgiving is an often overlooked holiday. It’s the time of year where you gather with friends and family to remind yourself what you are thankful for, while stuffing your face with excessive amounts of turkey and mashed potatoes. Step into any store and you will see how Thanksgiving seemingly doesn’t exist because of one thing: Christmas. Target and Walmart already look like winter wonder lands. Bath and Body Works has had their Christmas items on shelves for a good month now. And the common thought is area they really putting Winter Candy Apple and Vanilla Bean Noel scents out in October? Yes, Bath and Body Works wastes no time in stamping out Thanksgiving spirit. Why are we saying ‘ho-ho-ho’ this time of year when we really should be saying ‘gobble gobble’? Christmas is American’s favorite holiday, but skipping one holiday, a major on at that, is unnecessary.

Black Friday had gotten out of hand as well. Sales in some stores start the morning of Thanksgiving instead of the wee hours of the morning the next day. Employees aren’t able to spend time with their loved ones because they are scheduled to work so other people can save a few extra bucks on a TV or an iPad. Starting this year companies got the memo that Thanksgiving is a holiday that should be spent with family and not at a department store. Most retail chains are making their sales start at 6 a.m. the next morning which is what Black Friday should have been like all along.
