Please create a paragraph after each production shift you work. Briefly summarize your experience. What did you do? What were your overall editing observations?

  1. I edited the briefs on Halloween. It was nice because I got to experience several different sections, instead of just focusing on one. I had two sports briefs, an arts, a couple news, and an opinion.

  2. I edited a couple of articles going into the media guide. I liked how a couple of articles I read over were steps on things students can create themselves. I also edited a couple of newspaper articles in inDesign. I had to shorten and fit everything onto the page as we work on in class. Much fun!

  5. On October 26th I edited the personal stories from some of the student editors. Many of the journal articles were focused on the post graduation plans for the student. She had me focus on grammar mistakes, but mostly explain to her if the story actually made sense. The editors make the shift simple and a lot more interesting than I expected.

  6. On November 2nd, I was able to work on stories within indesign. There were multiple articles that needed to be shortened to fit within the designated areas. I was also able to edit some of the headlines that did not have a verb in it. I used my notes in class to accurately edit the headlines.

  9. November 7, I edited stories for the Washburn review about Politics in the classroom, tips on how to do job interviews, a DIY on infinity scarves, and different professors before they began teaching. I mainly focused on grammar mistakes as well as fine tuning the article. I used my AP Style book to help me while I edited.

  10. On November 7, I as well went to student media to help edit what turned out to be a lot of work. Nonetheless I didn't mind contributing, although it was hard to focus on correcting grammatical errors, when there are people using their outdoor voices. I learned that the process is way harder than it looks and my hat goes off to my peers who work in their on daily basis. I received a stack of papers that needed to be edited before its transcribed on to the computer. I set at the big, bulky, long editing table and went to work. I made suggestions on using other words or the direct usage of time, date and place and how it should be used in some stories. Overall my experience was great, and really hands on.

  11. I edited about seven or eight stories, I'm not the best person at editing so it took me a while to complete all eight. I had to look at them multiple times and even then I am sure I missed quite a bit of things. Regardless I felt that if I continued to do exercises or shifts I would improve a lot. I've never been inside the Review room and I thought everyone was very nice and close. Although it took me a while to ignore all the noise but once I did I had no problem.

  12. I also did a second non traditional shift were I took the about 7 stories home and edited them there. For some reason it was a lot harder for me to catch mistakes and I got distracted very easily. I think being in the right atmosphere or environment does wonders for productivity. It just so happens that I am not very productive in my apartment.

  13. I was given 7-8 pages of the Bod Magazine to take home to edit. There were a few mistakes here and their and few things were I did not have enough information over to make a proper correction. I enjoyed working on it and I will be getting my second round done tomorrow.

  17. On Oct. 24 I spend my time in the Student Media office editing three A&E articles. I found it odd the writers used the first person perspective when preparing their articles. Overall, the stories did not need much editing and were fun to read.

On Nov. 17 I worked Shannon to see the new Blox CMS. How the stories are uploaded online is basically the same, but there is a lot more options to designing the webpage, which is nice. I like the current mobile design and I felt like an editor again when I revised an article before publishing it online.

  18. My extra credit session was on November 30 but there were no assignments to do that day so Kenzie gave me bod magazine and stories to edit in class on December 6th and I completed the following class period.

  19. On Oct. 24 I edited stories online for the paper. I needed to queue up stories for the online segment, so worked on mainly news and features.

  20. I edited on the 7th and 21st. It was like a normal editing night with a few less people just because it was a Monday. Lisa had stories printed out for me to edit. I finished them and worked on a story I was writing for the Review.
